Our Present. Refractions

The present is the interface between the past and the future. In constant flux, it transforms potential into the past. In his new series, Göran Gnaudschun photographs the here and now. His efforts to depict contemporary attitudes towards life link his personal surroundings with the people and larger narratives of his time. Photographic signs are set in reference to one other, giving rise to an atmosphere of uncertainty vis-à-vis climate change, democracy fatigue, migration movements, worries about war, the resurgence of ideological thinking, and the unforeseeable consequences of artificial intelligence. Yet despite this, people continue to live their lives. As present-day witnesses, their portraits form part of Gnaudschun’s multi-layered work alongside landscapes, situational moments and found arrangements.
